Hi Shari,
I am doing great!!! It's hard to find something to complain about. I
have had a round with double vision and that has a tendency to slow you
down.
The 27th of this month will be four months since my surgery. The
hardest thing I have had to put up with is to remember to eat. Before
my surgery, I didn't have to remember to eat because I ate all the time.
lol
Now, eating is a chore.
My over-all health is so much better. While in the hospital, I had a
bout with ^ high sugar but now that is under control with no
medication. My sugar level varies between 99 and 109. I can't complain
about that.
All my life I have had unstable essential hypertension. One minute it
was out the roof and twenty minutes later it would be in the basement.
That was a difficult management problem. Now, I do not have any high
spikes. My pressure hovers around 133/75. My pulse this morning was
61.
My weight loss is slower than most, I have lost around 60-64 pounds.
That too is not stable. Up one day and down the next.
That brings up a funny..... Just a few weeks after surgery, I was
talking with Dr. Rutledge and he asks me how much weight I had lost. I
told him that I didn't have scales that would weigh me and I wasn't
going to buy any "cotton" scales to weigh on. He asks me if I had any
scales at home and I told him we did; however, they would not weigh my
tonnage. He laughed and told me to buy a cheap set of scales and stand
on both scales at one time and add them together. lol I would have
never thought about that but I thought his suggestion was great.
Anyway, I bought some decent scales and now my weight loss really bugs
me. I weigh too often and the up and downs really works on my head.
lol
As I said my health is so much better. I am off of nearly all my
pre-surgery medication and with that and the decrease in the amount I
spend on groceries I am saving a lot of money.
For those that are having a difficult time coming up with the cash for
the surgery, today, figure up how much you are spending on drugs and
grub and you will be surprised. The surgery will be a GOD send.
Reading and posting is a chore. I try to read all the post; however, it
is hard to stay up. If directed at me please put my name on the subject
line. I PRAY that you, Shari, continue to do well. If I can do
anything, just let me know.
BLESSING,
Larry |

I am doing great. As of now I weigh
between 115 and 129 pounds. I am so happy that I had the surgery. Thank
you very much. I am not having any trouble with diabetes.

Dr. R,
I did complete
my form for you, but I wanted to follow up with you personally.
I was referred
to CLOS by Lynda D. who has been my "adopted mother" for several years
now.
Thank you so
much for taking the time to talk to me on the phone almost 2 years ago.
I so wanted to come to Vegas for the MGB, but when Dr. P moved back to
Florida, it only made sense to have him do it since he's less than 2
hours away.
The local
newspaper, St. Pete Times (Pasco edition) wants to do a story on my
journey. When the reported asked me if I would consider letting her, I
told her it was not like I could hide how big I used to be, and I
definitely don't want to hide who I'm becoming.
Dr. R, I have
become a healthy, vibrant, beautiful 45 year old woman that is a model
for the MGB. As president of the United Way of Pasco County, I have
become much more effective and a wonderful role model for healthy
living.
Thank you so
much for the work you have done to give me, and countless others, a life
filled with health, beauty and love.
Sincerely,
Susan A |

Good afternoon Dr. Rutledge,
This is Michele.
I just wanted to update you with my name change, I was divorced
(happily) in early 2005 and in April 2006 I moved to GA.
I have
maintained my 200+ pound weight loss and have no complications. I do
have an excessive amount of skin that is heavy and concerns me because I
think it not only affects me mentally due to the appearance of the skin
and the mis-proportions that I am (with sizing), but I feel that it
limits me physically. I can't afford the reconstruction to have it
removed nor can it be done through insurance because it would have to be
proven medically necessary. BUT - don't get me wrong.... I am so happy
with the weight loss I've had, thrilled with my "new self" and elated
that my procedure and recovery was so incredibly easy - with no
complications.
Thank you for
all CLOS and this procedure has done for me - I'm happier now than I
ever have been in life.

I am one week post op today. I awoke at
3am and for the first time in a week I had to lift my shirt and see if
I had actually already had the surgery and YUP....there they
were.....the 7 almost healed stab wounds from that wonderful masked
man....LOL For the first time I feel almost normal. My blood pressure
and blood sugars have also both stabilized with no medication required.
I have been quite fortunate I think. I have had the horrible nausea, the
gas bubble and the lump in my throat and even a small bout with thrush
but all in all I really cannot complain. I have had to force down my
medication at every sitting and I totally understand when my
"littermate" states that she "turns green" at the sight of chicken broth
or v8. I had a rough time finding anything that appealed to me at all
and keeping up the salt was a constant battle. But looking back at the
week, it was a small price to pay for having undergone major surgery and
for the new healthier lifestyle I am about to begin. I have had a small
amount of milk almost everyday since the surgery....probably a couple of
tablespoons and have had no problems. I have had a loose stool each day
since the surgery but would not consider it diarrhea. When things got
really rough with nausea, I found that tapioca pudding and water with a
hint of lime was the most comforting foods for me....I am sure everyone
is different.
I was not without food cravings. I felt quite hungry for the first few
days and I was surprised at the things I was thinking I wanted to eat
such as hamburger, bacon, egg, really all proteins. Dr. R. told us when
we had staples out yesterday that we could try a small bit of egg and
you can be sure I did......the second I got home. It seemed to do the
trick for me and the cravings have subsided now as well. So I am not
really sure why I had the craving so strong for protein. The egg tasted
very good but I don't care if I have another one for awhile now. I think
what I miss most of all is guzzling back a LARGE glass of ice
water.....but again.....I am not complaining. All in all this has been
an amazing life altering, life saving journey for me and I can't believe
I feel so great after only a few short days of discomfort.
Sienna Suites has been a great place to stay. The suite was very clean
with fridge, stove, dishes, and dishwasher. The beds were not plush by
any means but I slept well on them. I rate it an A+ for the price. They
are very accommodating with extra pillows and linens etc. We will start
our trip back to Canada this morning at 5am. I believe we will see the
"Petrified Forest" in Arizona today......so that is exciting.
Have a good day
Jennifer

Marianne,
I had my surgery on
5/7/08 but was bypassed 7ft and your situation sounds a lot like mine.
I couldn't stand the Gatorade or yogurt, hardly any soup and I was
nausea too. I spent 3 days in bed between surgery and staple removal
clinic, but the estrogen patch helped that tremendously and I only had
to use it for a week. I ate mainly crackers, watermelon and salt
while drinking ice water that was all I craved was ice water. But
by clinic Dr. R was onto me about the Gatorade so I did try and increase
that for a few days but as soon as I got home, I was eating pintos and
cheese from taco bell, mashed potatoes from KFC, scrambled eggs, I
couldn't do the yogurt so I didn't. I am now 6 weeks out, all I
drink is water pretty much and I eat anything I want except sweets, just
small quantities and well chewed. I do have loose stools but I
take the fiber pills and pepto pills. My first thought on day 3
post op was "What have I done" because I was so sick but by the time I
got home and back in my environment it has been good, no regrets and I
am down 36lbs in 6 weeks. It will get better I promise and it will
be worth it.

When I saw my doc I took the manual and told him I
had to understand it all, and showed him the picture of what the MGB
was. I gave him the letter from Dr Peraglie that outlined what my doc
needed to do, and I also gave him the printed page with Dr P's picture
and contact information. I said we could call him right now if he wanted
to. I even had the MGB video that describes the surgery on my iPod Nano
and offered to show it to him. My doc wanted me to get the opinion of a
weight loss specialist, but I told him I couldn't waste time or money
doing that. He said he just didn't want to turn me over to some surgeon
he didn't know. By the next appt, I had seen my gastroenterologist, a
friend of my doc, who was enthusiastic in his support for me and that
won over my doctor. In the end I had two doctors write very nice letters
and provide a ton of histories and lab reports.
Be confident in
what you want, and what you know. Take your surgeon's contact info with
you, and the manual. Offer to leave it, give them the clos.net website,
but don't expect them to want to do any studying. Put a tab on the page
that has the drawing of the surgery to show them. And don't let them
tell you no without you telling them you're sorry you won't be able to
be their patient anymore!

Hello everyone,
I am now three
and a half weeks post op and down 31lbs. My blood pressure is steady at
130/80ish and I haven't had to take my BP meds since the day before
surgery. I am still shocked at how much energy I have. My wife is
reporting that my "freight train like" snoring is GONE! She says she
checks me in my sleep to make sure I am still alive since I am so quiet
now. I have begun to exercise and lift weights with no problem. I wake
up in the morning and no joint or ankle pain!
Now for the
problems...thankfully they are few and far between. I am still
struggling to eat Slllloooowwwwlllllyyyy. It is very hard for me. I will
say that if I eat fast at all, within three bites I am sick and on two
occasions it came back up. But I know it is my fault. I have not really
had any problems with eating sugary or fatty foods, one exception I
tried and succeeded to eat 1/2 a small milk shake. It was fantastic
going down but within thirty minutes I was sick as can be. I knew it was
too much. But a chocolate chip cookie for desert goes down just fine :)
I am not feeling deprived at all. Mentally I still want the extra value
meal supersized but I get two or three bites in and I don't want it any
more. It is a real learning experience.
For those who
are looking at the surgery... DO IT!! It is all its cracked up to be and
then some. I almost feel like it was too easy. I feel so blessed to have
had it. I don't get hungry, I eat what I want..just not near as much and
much more slowly. To me and my family it is a true miracle. Thanks
Doctor Rutledge.

How long does it take to get into the Dr
for this surgery once you meet requirements
Depends on how
fast you can pull things together. Submit your patient application
online and be sure to print out the confirmation email for your packet.
Call the center where you plan to have surgery and request a notebook to
help keep yourself organized. Call your doctor for an appt. if you have
to wait to get in and also schedule your psych eval. Remember that your
labs have to be within 30 days of your surgery date. Start working your
patient letter and all the other required bits and pieces. Let us
know if you have any questions along the way. Best wishes!

Hi Sue,
I think my
experience bears repeating.
I had my MGB May
31, 2000. 6 ft. bypass. Nothing remarkable, Good recovery. On February
11th, I weighed 211. (how do I rememeber that? Because on 2/11 I weighed
211). By the 17th, I'd gained five pounds. So there I was at 216-218. On
good days I felt happy because my blood pressure was normal, my GERD was
gone, I slept well, I felt well and of all things.I could move.really
move..but there was this nagging feeling that the weight loss was
over.that I would always weigh over 200 pounds. Even at 5'10" 200 did
not have a nice ring to it!
Then at 18
months post-op, for no apparent reason, I began to drop weight. I
dropped to the point where my MGB friends worried that I would continue
to lose and lose too much. I got spinal meningitis and went down to 147
pounds. On my 5'10" frame I did not look good at all. So then I was
worried that I was going to keep losing. I didn't. I got well, I began
to gain weight. And for about five years I was at a good weight and size
for me.
Today I have
rebounded and gained a bit more back than I like. But..I have no
prescriptions other than Mirapex for my restless legs. My blood pressure
is perfect. My labs are good. I can walk, run, move, do whatever I want
and am still minus about 135 pounds or so from where I started. Do I
need to cut back and lose more weight? Yes. Will I? Probably not. Habits
are deeply ingrained. I am not at my ideal weight. But I am minus a
whole person. But for me it took the entire two years.
Just because you
lose slowly doesn't mean you won't lose most or all of your excess
weight. Just because you lose fast doesn't mean that you'll lose too
much.
We have had
surgery with several of the most experienced bariatric surgeons
available. No other surgeons have a better shot at making the educated
guess as to how much should be bypassed and where the magic place is in
our guts. So basically, our surgeons are as good as it gets. The rest is
up to: a) God b) our bodies c) how well we utilize the tool d) ghrelin
e) whatever..some of us won't lose all of our excess weight. Some of us
will reach our ideal weight. A very small number will lose too much
weight. Is it guesswork? No. It's knowledge based on thousands of cases.
It's looking at what has worked for MOST people and doing that and
hoping that they can come as close to ideal as possible.
Don't worry if
you're losing slowly. Don't worry if you gain and you're under two years
post-op. If you are losing really really slowly.like maybe 30 pounds in
a year.something might be wrong. Talk to your surgeon.
They are not
magicians, but they've gotten pretty darn good at figuring out what will
work and what won't work. But once in a while one of us stumps them.
The way I view
it is I paid to get healthier and be able to move. I got that. And the
bonus is that I do look better. But the real bargain was my health. The
rest is icing on the cake.

O.K. You want the poop on what you are about to
undergo.
1. There may
very well be some pain after the procedure. During it, you won't feel a
thing. If in the recovery room the pressure is terrible tell them that
you feel ill and they will give you something for it. Also, the pain can
range from just pressure, to normal after surgery pain. I know one who
said it was horrible, but to be fair, she was well over 60 and managed
it quite well. it was short term in her words. The rest of us can tell
you that it was anywhere from barely there at all, to thank God for the
morphine pump.
2.. The first
two weeks you will begin to see a difference in both your attitude and
your weight. For the first time in forever you will lose and not be
fearful of it all coming back. I used to ask where a pound went when you
lost it. My feeling was it went to the local bar, got drunk, met up with
another good looking pound and made more pounds overnight. The next day,
when they sobered up, they decided to split those extra pounds and
return 1/2 to my body, all pounds in tow. but, for the first two weeks,
they can make all the extras they want, cause the door to come back in
is CLOSED! You will HAVE to eat liquids to insure the healing process,
make an effort at getting back into a normal life.
3. In the next
two weeks you will see more weight come off, maybe your clothes will be
a little lose. You will be adding things like oatmeal, mashed potatoes,
mashed beans, basically soft, non chewy foods. You may experience
reactions to some things, but take heart. Try again at a later date.
What doesn't set well today, my set tomorrow. Go slow, it took how ever
long to get to this point, it will not happen overnight.
4. In the next
month, your energy should return as well as a normal life, but life as
you used to know it will probably be fading. You will struggle to get
your protein in, find old comfort food taste like *(^&&%^&$&^$$&*()*&
and new foods that are wonderful. There may still be issues with some
foods not setting well, but unless the reaction is violent, try again
later on. And you will still be losing weight.
5. Sometimes the
body says WAIT! You are losing all this wonderful weight that has taken
me forever to collect...this just ain't right...so it may begin to do
something to sabatoge you. just like when you were on every other diet.
It is called a PLATUEAU. Up your protein and take a breather. Let the
body catch up with the rest of you. Keep the salt intake up and relax,
you will not be the very first person that Dr. R says this may not work
for. It has worked up to this point.
6. You will
definately need to buy new clothes as the other ones fall off. Include
something sexy, slinky and otherwise unmentionable. Your energy will
stay good as long as you remember your vities, salt, and PROTEIN. Your
hair may start to thin, try nioxin shampoo and zinx and magnesium.
Relax, I have never seen a bald mgb'er....well er...not a female
one.....haha
7. Your eating
habits should be pretty well established. You know when to stop because
you have felt that HORRIBLE PAIN when you tried to force that last
little bite in. Leave it be. You may not be able to eat somethings that
you enjoyed in the past, but there are a million other things out there
to eat. Clothes shopping should be something that you get to do more
often, and really start to enjoy. If your were a super plus size you
might be shopping off the rack already. Don't get too buy happy, they
won't fit for long. Dumping is something that you may have experienced
and hope to high heaven that you never do again and the orange issues
can be controled by avoidance of greasy or fried foods. STINKY, SMELLY
PAINT PEELING flatuance can be helped by sprays, and air freshners, but
basicallt the internal cause is excessive carbs. Cut back and see if
that helps. Besides carb trigger sugar cravings. Caffeine trigger carb
cravings.
8. As you get
nearer your goal, you will look back at this and wonder, what was I
worried about. I worried about being fat, this is a piece of cake.
9...Don't worry,
get skinnier. Get happier, Get healthier.....It just takes time.
Take care and
good luck

April,
I had MGB 3
months ago, and have a 2, 6, & 8 year old at home. My older children are
both in school so I didn't want to take them out of school for a week so
I could have surgery. I was able to leave them at home with their
Grandpa who lives in the same town and they didn't miss any school.
Thank goodness for family. My husband and I took our 2 year old with us
and drove 7 hours to my Moms house in St. George, Utah, which is only 2
hours from Las Vegas. I was able to leave her with my mother for the 2
nights that we were in Vegas. The day after surgery I traveled back to
St. George to stay with my mother while I recovered. My husband had to
go back to work and couldn't stay with me. My mom also works so I was
left alone during the day with my 2 year old starting the day after
surgery. I had no problem with being able to take care of her on my own.
I was able to lift her and get her in and out of her car seat pretty
easily. I was a little sore but could still do all the things I needed
to do as a mother. I too was worried about being able to care for my
children right after surgery, that is one of the reasons why I picked
the MGB. I knew that with the MGB my recovery time would be easier and
shorter than with the RNY. I also knew that my risk of complications was
much smaller and less likely which was extremely important to me being a
mother. I definitely feel like I made the right choice. What a differnce
3 months has made for me. I have lost 53lbs. to date, but more important
to me is the difference in the interaction I have with my children. I am
so much happier and easier to be around, and I have energy to play with
them and take them places I would have avoided before. My knees and my
back don't hurt as much or as often as before. I can't wait to see what
the next 40 to 50 lb. loss will bring! After that I should be at my goal
weight. I am so excited! If you have any questions for me please feel
free to contact me.

Hi, there,
I'm not quite
two years out, and am very fortunate in that I am experiencing a
longer-than-usual "honeymoon" period and admittedly not eating as
"cleanly" as I know I should.
However, in my
defense, the FIRST thing I do every morning is get on the scale, and
depending on what it tells me (regarding 1-2 lbs. up or down) I adjust
my eating accordingly until the scale is back where it should be. I also
exercise at the level that some might consider complusive (8-10 hours a
week), but only activities that I really enjoy and consider my "fun"
time with my gym-rat buddies (which currently include choreographed
dance aerobics, step, circuit training and power salsa).
I am confident
that by reacting IMMEDIATELY to what the scale tells me as well as
maintaining regular exercise (maybe not as much as I'm doing right now,
but I have exercised at least 3 hours a week since 1980, so this is an
ingrained habit for me) that I will be able to beat the odds on possible
regain...like so many have already said, this has been the best answer
to my life-long weight problem, and I am committed to making it the
PERMANENT answer.
I don't think
that Al Roker and Carnie Wilson are particularly good examples to hold
up for evaluation. Al admittedly had an injury which prevented him from
his exercise routine. Mathematically, as we all know, if the energy
expended is reduced, than the energy injested must also reduce to
prevent weight gain. However, if you're not exercising, not only are you
not expending the calories, but you do not get the benefit of the
reduced appetite for a couple hours after an exercise session, plus you
have more free time to fill with eating.
I'm not sure
where Carnie Wilson is weight-wise, but she was doing well with the 10
lb. range until she got pregnant. I think she made the same mistake that
many woman make (how many of us had our weight problems initiated by
pregnancy?) in taking that condition as license to eat any and
everything, and then not getting back on track immediately after
delivery. Poor girl. As public as she was with her journey, I'm sure
she's embarrassed now. I hope she is able to turn it around as Al seems
to be doing.
These days, I
like to restrict embarrassment to my 13-year-old niece, who is appalled
that I will dance to the Musak at restaurants while we're waiting to be
seated!
Regards to all
my fellow journeyers.

Ken, there are two ladies in my vet clinic that have had the RNY
procedure.
It was successful for both of them in that that
both lost or are losing a lot of weight (one is three years out, one is
3 months out). Both talk a lot about a long surgery time (the most
recent was four hours), long recovery time (both out of work for eight
weeks) and lots of time dedicated to barfing. Both had to be
re-hospitalized for one reason or another.
Me, I had the
MGB two months ago. I was in surgery about 38 minutes, out of the
hospital the next day, and went to see Blue Man Group in Vegas on
Post-Op Day 5. I've never barfed, never dumped and have lost 40 pounds
in two months. I run three miles five days a week and this morning, got
onto my best horse and had a great ride for the first time in several
years.
Both of the
techs at work that had RNY are literally stunned that my recovery has
gone so well, which I tell them is just a standard recovery from an
MGB---I'm nothing special in that respect.
The only
downside to MGB is that it's harder to talk your insurance company into
covering it, as they still consider it "experimental". Right---3000
successful surgeries and it's still "experimental", but don't get me
started on health insurance carriers.<g> If you can figure out a way to
finance the MGB over settling for the RNY, do it. It's not an
unreasonable amount considering the benefits, and your extended life
expectancy is well worth it.
Good luck, and
hope to welcome you to the other side soon. I couldn't be happier with
my decision to do so.

I am aware
that you are doing a report on Dr. R. Rutledge and the Mini-Gastric
Bypass surgery. I am writing to let you know of my experience with
this surgery.
I am a
type one diabetic of almost 40 years, with a long and extensive
medical history. This history includes coronary artery disease,
diabetic retinopathy, and chronic low back pain. Approximately two
years ago my endocrinologist suggested I consider weight loss
surgery as I had become morbidly obese and my extreme weight gain
was negatively affecting my health.
After
doing intensive research about weight loss surgeries I was blessed
to find Dr. Rutledge and his procedure. My endocrinologist was
very impressed with the mini-gastric bypass procedure and was fully
supportive of my electing to have this surgery.
I had the
surgery performed on July 25, 2005 with no complications
whatsoever. I had been warned about having surgery necessitating
general anesthetic but at Dr. Rutledge's request I had a full work
up with my own cardiologist prior to having the surgery and she also
agreed that this surgery held an acceptable risk for me, with the
likelihood of excellent results.
It is just
over six months since my surgery now, and I have lost almost 60
pounds. My blood pressure is low-normal and my insulin requirements
have dropped by more than 50%. My back pain has been reduced
significantly and my Hemoglobin A1C (a blood test for overall
glucose readings covering a three month period) has dropped to close
to normal range. I also no longer have any shortness of breath with
exertion.
All of my
doctors here in Toronto, Canada, are very pleased with my progress
since having the surgery and I am also very pleased with how I am
feeling. For me, it is like I have been given a second chance at a
longer and healthier life !
Dr.
Rutledge is one of the most compassionate, honest and caring doctors
I have ever had any contact with and I have met many doctors in my
very long 'medical life'. His staff at CLOS and also the hospital
staff where the surgery was performed are above reproach. I had a
career as a registered nurse myself, prior to my health taking a
downward turn, and I know a great team of health professionals when
I meet them.
Thank you
for taking an interest in Dr. Rutledge and his wonderful procedure.
I only wish he could be given more 'spotlighting' as he has a great
capacity of caring and technique that could change the lives of many
more than it already has.
Sincerely,
Ellen C.

Hi all...
Sorry it took me
so long to do my short update here... well lets see.. I had my surgery
on Sept. 23 of 2004 at Bay Regional Center in Bay City.. I walked in
there weighing @ 306 but did weighed 308 the week before anyway I had
discomfort of arthritis in my lower back & knee came out of surgery with
no problem just had a lot of gas pain in my one shoulder. Only missed
work for 2 days.. I work as a factory worker so I don't sit anyway as of
this date I no longer have arthritis in my lower back or knee. I have
lost a total of 101#.. I have so much energy & on the go all day
long...I would recommend this wonderful surgery to anyone that has no
luck getting those unwanted pounds off. I picked my Mom up at the
airport a few nights ago & she hasn't seen me since Nov. & she was so
flabbergasted & had tears in her eyes when she saw me around the
corner... all I can remember her saying "oh my god what a miracle!" I
have so many co-workers calling me skinny Minnie & they are so amazed
with the results after loosing 100 lbs.. Today my co-worker gave me a
potluck & a decorated cake saying "Congratulations Kris on losing 101
lbs... good job!" I was just beaming all over. I never felt so good in
my life...Hope you all have the good luck that I have had so far.. last
month I didn't lose as much as I usually do but I was ok with it &
weighing 207.. sure beats being 308! Sure am anxious to lose more...
Good Luck to you all....
CONGRATULATIONS
TO ALL & WELCOME TO THE CENTURY CLUB...... |

Hi All,
WOW - If for no
other reason than to have great vitals, this is the surgery to have!
I just got a
call from my PCP's office about the blood work
results at the six month mark (really it's been 7 months):
Total
cholesterol went from 307 pre-surgery to 193 now (good cholesterol is at
56 and bad cholesterol down to 109)
Triglycerides down to 142.
I feel
wonderful, I look wonderful but these numbers are really the most
important numbers for me. I'm healthy and just wanted to thank the
wonderful Dr. Rutledge and staff for saving my life! I really hope to
make it to the picnic in October to thank him personally! What a
wonderful blessing!
Oh, and Donna P.
- did the ground shake a little in Corpus Christie this morning? If so,
it was me jumping up and down because I've lost another two pounds! LOL
(I told you that you might hear me all the way down south if I lost any
weight lol) Thank goodness the scale finally moved after 2 months! Up
the protein and walk (I walk thirty minutes every day now) - it seems to
be working! I just hope it keeps going down before another plateau
decides to hang around ;-)

Hi everyone,
Just thought I'd
share my three month check up results with you. They are very good!
My fasting blood
sugar was 5.1 - the best it has been in five years. My liver function
was in the normal range (it was high pre-surgery). Calcium and magnesium
were in the normal ranges - they were low before. My BP was 115/70
without medication (I'm usually 150/80 with meds!?!).
My doctor - who
was initially opposed to the procedure - is now quite impressed.
Thank you Doctor
R and D - Penny, Elizabeth and the MI staff - for everything! Thank you
for coming to Canada and sharing this wonderful procedure with us. (I
was on the way to an RNY in Rochester but was able to change it to an
MGB after I made the informed comparative analysis.)
Best, Teri

Hello everyone,
Miriam
here......7/1/03 - 7/1/04 Dr. Rutledge Statesville
I can't believe
it has been a year. And what a year it has been.
It has been
downhill all the way. At a good pace, stopping along the way to
comtemplate and get use to things the way they look and then taking off
again. I was 252 highest weight (when I left home for my journey) 248
the day of surgery and 234 the day I left Statesville. Today I am 158
lbs. Wow and how great do I feel. I am wearing size 8 pants, 6 with some
designers and large and medium blouses. I love to shop now. I buy a
piece of clothing every week. All my blood work has been good. I stay on
my vits and still am not eating alot, OF COURSE DRINKING THAT GATORADE.
I know more than
ever now, after reading 4 & 5 years post ops that learning to eat right
"NOW" is so very important. So I stay on low fat foods and small
portions. My upfall "SWEETS" but i do WATCH my portion size. I try to
have weight watcher deserts in the house for those sweet days.
I take this
opportunity to thank Dr. R for this wonderful experience and the girls
in Statesville Clos office, that were so helpful and understanding to
get me to where I am today. BLESS YOU ALL.
TO ALL MY
LITTERMATES OF JULY 1, 2003 I WOULD LIKE TO SEE YOU POST TODAY.

Contact letter for any in need.
Hello, my name
is Wayne Robbins. I had the Mini Gastric Bypass surgery with Dr Robert
Rutledge on November 7th, 2002. I weighed 250 lbs and although I didn't
think that I was all that heavy, I had several co-morbidities. I was on
two medications for high blood pressure, I had sleep apnea and snored so
badly that I was unable to sleep in the same room with my wife for four
years. I had continuous sore knee joints and lower back pain and
suffered from mild depression. I am 5'10" tall and I was 45 years old at
the time of surgery.
My wife
Elizabeth Robbins, had the surgery May 15th 2000, and I saw how it
changed her life as well as our lives together. Her weight at the time
of surgery was 350 lbs and she had a BMI of 56. She also suffered from
high blood pressure and other health problems because of her weight. I
knew how it helped with the co-morbidities of my wife as well as that of
other patients, and, coupled with the fact that heart and kidney disease
ran in my family, I decided to have the surgery.
As of Dec. 1,
2003, my weight is 174 and my BMI is 24. My blood pressure is 124/76,
without ANY medications! I have stopped snoring (according to my wife).
I have no more joint pains, and the lower back pain only occurs after a
bad round of golf, in which I now walk the entire 18 holes instead of
ride in a cart.
I have had no
problems with foods and can pretty much eat anything I want, but what I
want now is fresh foods and lean meats. I had a little nausea in the
beginning but now feel great! My surgery took 31 minutes and I was in
the hospital for 24 hours.
If this surgery
was required every year to maintain the benefits, I would do it in a
heartbeat. I thank God for Dr Rutledge, and his ability and foresight to
develop this procedure and for training other surgeons, such as Dr.
H., how to proficiently perform this life saving procedure. He
has given the lives back of my wife, me and at least 2000 other people!
I will be a
contact for anyone, and help in whatever phase of the process you are
involved.

Hello,
I am happy to share
my first five days with the group. Had my Surgery on Monday Dec. 30,
2002.
Day One. Surgery
at about 10:00 am. Walking the hall around 2:00. Some pain but basically
slow. Continued walking the rest of the day.
Day Two: Walked
all morning, released at about 11:00. Returned home, wife drove, to
Greenville SC. Located my favorite chair and remained there until Bedtime.
Had discomfort sleeping. Mainly cramps and stomach aches. Every time I
turned in the bed I awoke so I located my favorite chair with a blanket
and camped out for the rest of the night..
Day Three: Very
sore stomach area, particularly top left quadrant of abdomen. A little
selling in stomach. Continued getting up and walking but eventually gave
in and found my chair to spend the evening. Similar experience sleeping,
but I made it through the night without finding my chair.
Day Four: Felt
GOOD!!!!! Walked a lot, moved around a great deal went to grocery began to
get back to normal. Still had the pain in top left quadrant. Sort of like
a very serious gas pain or a swift kick in the stomach by a person bigger
than I.
Day Five. My hobby
is Woodturning so I turned a bowl and did a little woodworking. No
problems, pain is reducing. Fear of Leak has gone! Slept like a baby!
Day Six: Turned
another bowl, went to lunch with my wife (I had Soup), lucky wife is
skinny, she had a sandwich. Went to see the movie Gangs of NY! Great Movie
if you like lots of violence and Blood. No pain, no problem except I have
soreness in my left arm which concerns me. It is in the area of the IV. I
am seeing my PCP tomorrow to remove the staples so he will check it out.
What have i eaten?
Well, drank lots of Gatorade! Already wore out my liking of
Strawberry/Kiwi. Learned to love Yoghurt. Found out Baby Food (Fruit) and
Fat Free Yogurt is better than the Dannon fruit type. A few Saltines with
some Chicken Broth and that represents my entire diet for the past 6 days.
Only weighed once
and am down 7 pounds. Already feel the difference in my Jeans.
So, was it worst
than expected? Maybe for the first two days but after that it wasn't too
bad. Is it bad now? No, it is wonderful.

Hi,
Got to tell you all, I would go
through hoops of fire to have this surgery again, and I too fought with
the insurance company, and yes it was very tense, hell, my husband had
just gotten laid off when I had my o.r. with Dr. R. now here I am at 9
mos. and almost a hundred pounds less and waking up each day literally
thanking God for helping me find Dr. R. and those wonderful girls in his
office. I lost diabetes, high cholesterol, and that eternal shame of which
I couldn't help, BEING FAT and feeling that I had to apologize for that
too. All insurance tension pales by comparison to the new me. We are lucky
to have this chance to stop groveling to the planet for being fat. Do you
remember the agony of defeat at every diet attempt? Well, turn that
insurance quest into your new challenge, and you may win. I hope so. Dr.
R. made it all happen. Best Wishes and eternal gratitude,

130 pounds lost
Cheryl writes,
"I had my WLS one year ago and weighed in at 287 lbs at 5'9", with
comorbidities of borderline high blood pressure, borderline diabetic,
sleep apnea, back and knee pain, etc. My BMI then was at 42.
I have been holding steady
now for the past month at 157 lbs, no comorbidities and my BMI is now
well within the ideal range at 23.
I went from a tight
size 28 to comfortably wearing size 10 and some size 8s.
Good luck preops---Hang in
there because it all gets better and better with each passing day! :)"

| Hi everyone ...
Two years ago today I was eating my "last meal" before my surgery on 4/18
... the day that I began to live again.
It has been a voyage of discovery of my new self ... most things are just
great, but I still run in to some areas that I still have problems with.
Still seeing the fat body in the mirror ... but I do love seeing people I
haven't seen for a while and having them wonder who I am! Yes, it made that
big of a difference.
I lost a total of 125 pounds ... and have kept it off for going on 18
months. I am happy, healthy and much more confident than I have been in
years. No more medications for blood pressure (yay) and the only meds I am
taking are an antidepressant, hormones (or my children would divorce me) and
my vitamins! Not bad for a 53 year old youngun ...
I can't say enough kind words about Dr. R ... I continue to read of
everyone's successes and wish that Colorado was just a tad closer to NC so I
could join in the socializing. One of these days I'll get back down there
... Ginny - you game for dinner again???
Thank you Dr. R for giving me back my life ... to the list for the
support that is inevitably needed once in a while ... to my litter mates --
wow -- 2 years! Hard to believe ...

| Hello,
I hope all of you are planning on attending the MGB picnic and meeting
your MGB family. It is a lot of fun and you can get a lot of information.
It doesn't have to cost a lot of money to stay in Durham. We have made
arrangements with the Hawthorn Suites Extended Stay Hotel for group rates.
All suites include a fully equipped kitchen (refrigerator, stove, microwave,
dishwasher, coffemaker with coffee) iron and ironing board, hair dryers and
complimentary breakfast buffet. It is about 15 minutes from the airport.
Each suite has a separate, private bedroom and a living room with a queen
size sofa sleeper.
1 bedroom, 1 bathroom suite $55 a night
2 bedroom, 2 bathroom suite $70 a night
Last year 4 of us women shared the 2 bedroom suite which ended up costing
us $20 a night each after taxes. We also shared the rental car. We had so
much fun for so little!
I try to keep a list of everyone staying at the Hawthorn and pair up
people who are looking for roommates. So please email me at igs4me2001 @yahoo.com
(remove spaces) or just click on the email address which is partially
disclosed in the heading above if you are reading the web version.
To make your reservations you need to call the Hawthorn directly and tell
them you are with Dr. Rutledges group. Speak to Minnie if she is there.
Their phone number is 919-361-1234.The website is www.hawthorn.com

Hi,
Don't be afraid. The whole experience was good for me
except the IV. It took 3 sticks to get mine started. I'm a nurse and
appreciate your fear and concern.
I was also worried but knew that it was the right
decision for me. When I woke up, I felt very confused and couldn't quiet
figure out why there were all these blue suited folks around me. I was
hurting and nauseated. That was the worst pain/feeling that I had the whole
time.
It was intense but within less than 1 minute I was
already getting something for pain and nausea. There after, it was simple a
matter of pressing the wonderful little button on the PCA pump. This
wonderful machine allows medication to be given to you in a specific dose in
specific time guidelines as you request. You push the button, if you can
have it, you get it. If not, you don't. You really do not need it that
much.
I hurt a fair amount due to a hiatal hernia repair that
Dr. R. fixed for me. The diaphragm has bundles of nerves and the stick goes
in there to repair it. That is why I hurt more than my litter mate. She
was bouncing down the hall and I was moving a lot slower. I took 1 "pain"
med for 4 days straight and then didn't take anything else.
* This MGB surgery went better than my laparoscopic
gallbladder surgery.*
When you get to the preop/holding area, let the
anesthesiologist know that you are really uptight and they will give you
some versed...another wonderful drug that allows you to relax and also has a
side effect of making you forget stuff. They need this for labor and
delivery and then later for the teenage years (<BG>)
Good luck on your journey and let us know how you do.
You can email me privately and I will give you my
telephone # if you would like to talk.

| Hi and welcome to one of the most important decisions that you
will make in your life!!!
My name is Carol H. - I am 40 years old (soon to be 41), married with 2
teenage daughters - 19 and 16, work full time in my own business and assist
my husband in running 3 businesses and have been a RN for more than 20 years
in the state of Michigan.
Deciding on having an MGB was the BEST decision that I have ever made. I
have been significantly obese since I was in college and it has only gotten
worse. My highest weight was 290 pounds but last spring I was down to 225
and that was my lightest in the past 10 years. I have tried everything and
anything!!!
Here is my story! In fall of 2000, I had decided to retire from nursing
due to burnout- I had done home health care for MANY years and just could
not do it any more. A very close family friend of mine "Don" owned a jewelry
store and had for many years been the most reputable jeweler in our area.
Anyway - he talked to my husband and I about buying his store and the deal
went through. Don - like me ALWAYS struggled with his weight! He also had a
back injury and he and I discussed our back injuries quite often. He was
also diabetic and suffered from high blood pressure. In my case, I suffered
from high blood pressure, high cholesterol, varicose veins, gestational
diabetes, depression, asthma and my being overweight had started limiting
some of my abilities (when I was above 250 pounds). Anyway, the plan was for
me to work in the new business with Don and his brother until 02/2001 - when
we would take over ownership. Then Don and his brother would consult with us
for at least 5 years to help in the transition of the business. I started
working in the store on November 1, 2000 - Don had just returned from Durham
and having MGB with Dr Rutledge (on 10/20/2000). When Don told me what he
had done - I told him that he was NUTS!!! My experience with weight loss
surgeries with past friends and patients was very negative and all I could
see was FAILURE!
Don started working full time immediately and he did very well. Little or
no side effects and he was starting to eat a lot of soft foods and liquids.
Meanwhile, my weight was coming back on and I was getting more and more
frustrated because again - another diet had failed me!!! By January, I was
asking Don ALOT of questions about his surgery and doing research on the
website. I was VERY impressed with DR R and his whole process!! His
educational program is exceptional and his statistics are unbelievable!!! By
my birthday in March - I had made up my mind that I was going to check out
ALL of the alternatives. Another dear friend of mine who is much heavier
then me and who has had MANY health problems was also looking into wls. She
announced that she was going to go downstate and have Roux-en-Y - I wished
her the best but was skeptical because I knew that she would be cut open and
with a 4 day post-op stay and 4-6 weeks off of work. It surely did not sound
like a lot of fun. I talked to ALOT of people on the wls chat line, friends
of mine in the medical profession (nurses and MD's) and the more I looked at
the facts - the clear it became to me the MGB was the nest alternative. I
knew that with some fighting that my insurance would pay for the surgery and
that was good enough for me. By June 2001 - I set up my appt with my MD and
psychiatrist and started emailing Dr R who was helpful and supportive. My
friend Don was making UNBELIEVABLE progress and still no major problems. I
couldn't believe it. I took all of the initial paperwork to my MD and he was
VERY impressed. By this time - I was back up to 260. I had a small problem
with some test results which turned out to be a machine malfunction and I
completed all of the initial paperwork. But it took me until 09/2002 to get
my psych eval done due to the incompetence of the staff and losing my
paperwork 3 times. During this time - I was emailing Dr R numerous times per
week because he was in the midst of relocating and I could hardly wait to be
scheduled for surgery. I also worked on getting prior authorizations from my
health insurance company and was trying to save every penny that I could
towards my surgery. Well - the holidays came and I was getting pretty
desperate because I thought that I would NEVER get my surgery!!! My weight
was back up to 275 and I was very depressed.
A few days before Christmas 2001 - I got the BEST Christmas present
ever!!! Late one evening, Trish from Dr R's office called and asked me when
I would like to have my MGB!!! I couldn't believe that she was actually
calling to set up my surgery. I cried!!!!! I was SOOOO happy. Well they
scheduled me for 01/07/2002 in the am and things started to really move
now!! Of course, I was actually nervous so my eating habits slowed way down.
On 01/04/2002, my husband and I left Upper Michigan for the track 1050
miles down to Statesville, NC. I couldn't wait to actually meet Dr R and his
staff - he said I was one of his most persistent patients and that my emails
just kept coming. He was very patient and kind with me and I told him that
when I saw him - first thing was that he was going to get a BIG hug!!! We
arrived in Statesville on Sunday Jan 6 in the pm and got settled in the
Holiday Inn Express. The suites are great with 2 TV's and rooms, a microwave
and fridge. They work out very well for you post-op and they are only $50
per night. Anyway, I took all of my pre-op meds - just like they instructed.
One suggestion is to make sure that you bring some Preparation H with you
because the pre-op double dose of MOM is hard on the hemorrhoids. But other
than that things went fine pre-operatively.
I got to the hospital very early the next morning because I was nervous
and READY!!!! Dr Rutledge showed up and I was thrilled - I gave him a HUG
and on we went. I found out that there had been a mix up with the surgery
schedule and I wasn't scheduled. Of course - PANIC - was my first thought.
But Dr R and Dana worked and guess what - I went into surgery about 10:30 am
to 11:00am. The surgery took 33 minutes and I was in the recovery room. I
did have some pain but the nurses took care of it right away. By 6 pm - I
was doing great just a little gas. I ate about a tsp of Jell-O and ate some
ice chips. With me - I found that wintergreen lifesavers broke up into 4
pieces and sucked on really helped the little bit of nausea that I had. But
I did just fine and I was discharged from the hospital the next am to the
hotel. The next 2 days - I slept a lot - had some interesting gas and just
took little sips of soup and a few tsp of yogurt. The Carafate 4 times a day
is a real treat but it is only for 1 month and it is VERY impt. to the
healing of the stomach. By the 4th post-op day - my husband and I took a
ride to Asheville, NC and toured the Vanderbilt mansion all day. I did fine
- I was just a little tired but otherwise I did fine. Just to let you know -
your first BM is a little bit of a disappointment - a lot of noise but not
much results - lol!!!! Anyway - Dr R's nurse - Dana checked on me everyday
and on the 7th post-op day - Dr Rutledge took out my staples and I was off
home. I returned to work on the 10 post-op day. I have been a little
fatigued sometimes and gassy but I do pretty well. I did vomit one time when
I ate too fast but otherwise I do fine. My post-op weight was 268 - I lost
26 pounds the first month (242) and approx. 14 pounds the second month
(228). I feel sooo much better!!! More energy- no high blood pressure meds.
I am down 4 sizes and it is great!!! I hope to get down to about 140-150!!
Dr R and his staff are truly the BEST!!!! If you check out his past 1330
patients - I am 1305. You will find several MD's , theirs spouses, CEO's of
big hospital or their spouses, nurses and other medical professionals that
have choose Dr R because of his reputation and the success that he has. That
should tell you a lot if he has a high percentage of medical professionals
that believe it is the best for them. Would I do MGB again? I don't even
have to think about that - DEFINITELY - YES!!! I wish that I would have had
it 10 or 15 years sooner. The day that I had the surgery Dr R told me that
January 7th would be my new birthday. He gave me my life back!!! This has
been such a positive thing for me that I am sure God was watching over me
because life is good and I can now enjoy the rest of my life without
problem.
Best of luck and let me know if I can help in any other way!

Hi Victoria,
I was next door to you in the hospital. I too am living
a new life. I started this journey out at 375 lbs and I now weigh 192. I
still want to lose 52 more pounds and I am feeling great. I couldn't wear a
size 26/28 jeans and now I wear 14's and some 12's depending on how they are
cut. I have a renewed excitement for life and I will be graduating from RN
school in May. This surgery is the best thing that I have ever done for
myself. I thank God everyday for Dr. R and would love to be able to tell
everyone about him and his wonderful surgery. I am glad that you did so well
also, I know things started a little rough for you that first night postop.
Let's keep losing girl I have more new clothes to buy.

| Hello everyone...
I couldn't let the day pass without
logging on here and trying to sum into words how I feel today....
Bear with me (if you dare)
Today I turned ONE...one year ago Dr. Rutledge and I danced, and it was a
glorious moment. In 29 minutes, Dr. R. did what I had been trying to do for
YEARS but never was successful. I was 261 pounds at 5'4" (maybe on a good
day), wearing a size 24, and at 28 years old I could hardly make it up a
flight of stairs without stopping and trying to catch my breath. Feeling as
if my heart was going to burst out of my chest nonetheless. My right knee
hurt each step I would make, and I had headaches daily. My blood pressure
was high, and I should have probably been on a light dose of medication for
that, however, because I was so ashamed to go to the doctor's office
(because of the dreaded scales) and sheer fear that my doctor would finally
have the dreaded..."You need to lose weight" talk, that I suffered silently.
I was a borderline diabetic as well, and my immune system was pretty low,
because if someone mentioned the word virus I would catch it. My self-esteem
was non-existent, and probably worse than that, and I was depressed, very
depressed, although I learned how to hide that well around others and was
able to fool most just by my smile. Waking up each morning felt like I was
serving a life sentence, not a blessing like it should be. If someone did
happen to find something nice to compliment me on, I would quickly jokingly
laugh it off and say, "Yeah- right!" without even imagining the possibility
that they could have actually meant what they said. At 27 years old my
doctor told me when I went to see her because I was afraid I was getting
ready to have a heart attack, that if I didn't change all areas of my life
(my job which was toooooo stressful, my weight-no need for explanation) that
she might be tending to a patient that had a stroke before she was 30! Boy
was that a terrifying visits. After finding Dr. R's website one night, I
began researching the MGB. When I first found the site, I immediately became
excited. Excited by the thought that this could help me...but then only to
play Devil's Advocate with myself and tell myself that this probably wasn't
a realistic possibility for me (and then I began to try to think of all the
excuses of why it couldn't be for me) but still nightly getting on the
website and doing more research. I emailed my doctor several times, and
basically she kept telling me that she wasn’t really a "fan" of weight loss
surgeries, that she really thought I could get my weight off with a sensible
diet and exercise program, but she told me to keep researching it if I felt
strongly enough about it. That is exactly what I did. I did keep trying
diets and continued to exercise, however you know the drill.... diet 40
pounds off, and that 40 comes back and brought its friends. I kept in touch
with my doctor over that year via emails about the MGB, and finally one
night I sat at my computer and typed up a LONGGGGGGGGGG email to her. I
asked her to keep my email between us and out of my medical chart and
basically I explained to her how it felt to be me. How I hated myself. How I
felt I kept people at an arms length and wouldn't allow anyone to become
close to me, because I knew that one day (probably not so far into the
future) I wouldn't be around. How I knew that I would die of a health
problem due to being overweight. How it felt to have to struggle just to tie
your shoes, how it felt to try to bathe properly, how it felt to not be able
to buckle up a seat belt in your friends vehicle b/c the belt was too small.
I explained how I felt like a failure because I had honestly tried
everything I could think of and everything anyone else could think of to
lose weight. I poured my heart and soul out to her in that email, and
surprisingly, she responded with a beautiful email saying...good news...I
have a patient that had the surgery with Dr. Rutledge and she is doing
wonderfully, and I would support your decision to have this surgery if you
choose to do so. WHEWWWWWWWW.... what a beautiful day that was!!!!! I felt
hope where there used to be despair before, I saw light where they had only
been darkness! I began working hard on my packet...and everything else just
fell into place for me. I was definitely one of the lucky ones!
On March 19, 2001 I went to Durham Regional Medical Center and my life
changed...after 29 minutes of surgery I was given a second chance at life. I
know God has always looked after me and he still does, and I can't thank him
enough for him sending and angel to me.
In one year, I have lost half of myself, but gained so much more! I have
lost 131 pounds and I have gained tons of self-esteem, understanding,
compassion, love, patience, knowledge, and closeness. I'm half the person
physically I was before, but I've learned that I've always been the same
inside. I should have loved myself before. I see now that nothing was wrong
with who I was! It's sad for me to look back and realize that the weight
wasn’t the REAL problem with me, it was the way I viewed myself. How I was
also like many others that stereotype those of us that have weight issues.
How could anyone else see anything I had to offer...I couldn't even see
those things myself, so how could I show them to anyone else? Someone would
have to look really hard to find them, and quite frankly...who would have
wanted to. Even if they saw those things initially in me, I would have
pushed them away. I would have basically called them a liar to their face
for seeing something different than what I saw in myself. I am happy to
report that I now like T. for T.... because I'm a good person, with a loving
heart and soul. I'm a good friend, a hard worker, and I'm human. I'm human
and I now know it. I tell myself to strive to be the best I can be, but I
now allow myself room for a few mistakes. I have tried to stop taking other
people’s responsibility for their mistakes. I've learned to ignore ignorance
whenever possible but to lead by example. I don't push this surgery or my
ideas on anyone, however I'm always free to discuss it with anyone. I am
opened with everyone, probably too opened about my surgery. I no longer have
headaches (maybe once in a blue moon- and even then not too bad). My blood
pressure is terrific, my knee rarely ever hurts, and my blood sugar was
wonderful last time it was checked. I am scheduled to have my one year
physical with my doctor on April 26th at which time I will have a full blood
workup and I'll be sure to update everyone again, but I promise it will be a
shorter email...hehehhee...then I'll be going to see Dr R, hopefully
sometime in May for my Dr. R one year check up!
I have changed all those areas in my life that my doctor suggested. I had
surgery on March 19th and moved out on April 7th. I was laid off from my job
on August 1st and now I'm living in Virginia (close to Roanoke Rapids NC)
and I'm in love :) I met a wonderful man, who loves me not for my size, but
for who I am. I have lots of new friends, one of which I feel extremely
blessed to have found. She is the sweetest, greatest, most kind hearted,
thoughtful person I've ever known. I hope that one day I can repay her for
all that’s she's done for me, but I’m almost sure I won't be able to-
although I'll certainly try.
I'm so sorry this is such a long email. I have been overwhelmed with
emotions all week, and especially today.
I'd like to thank Dr. Rutledge for believing in what he does. I know that
there must have been MANY, MANY times that he also felt like giving up over
the last year, but I'm so thankful that he didn't. I want to thank my
parents for all their love and support, and I'd like to thank Dr. N. (the
best PCP in the world) for supporting me. Also, to all the post ops before
me a special thank you for always lending a supportive ear and answering all
my questions. Thanks to all my friends that supported me along the way, and
my new friends that have had to sit through the MGB training class...hehehee...also...to
my sweetie...I'd like to thank him for loving me for me, and helping me
realize that I never was nearly as bad as what I made myself out to be.
A friend of mine once told me I was like a butterfly. I started out a
caterpillar but metamorphosed into a beautiful butterfly. I never really
believed that about myself, but I'm so thankful to say that I am a butterfly
now. A beautiful, colorful butterfly that had been wrapped up in a cocoon
for much too long. I'll be getting a tattoo of that butterfly, and hopefully
someone might comment on it one day, and I'll get to enlighten another
person about the MGB. Maybe Dr R could save someone else's life just like he
did mine :)
Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to bore you to death tonight.
Thanks to all those that helped me along my journey, and for those that I’m
sure will still help me the rest of the way.
I'll be sending Tricia some updated photos of myself by the weekend so
check me out...hehehe
I don't have much time anymore (working 2 jobs) to read the posts, but if
anyone needs me, please email me privately at heelsnpack@aol.com and I'll be
sure to reply as soon as I can. I'll still pop in every now and again to say
hi and post one of my world famous 3 hour emails...heheheheeee
I'd love to hear from all my ole' buddies and littermates! Susan from
Ark.how is you? Shelley? Carla? Andrea? Nicole? Flo? Margie and Phil? Manda?
Everyone else I've missed!
Ohhhhhhhhhhh...one more piece of news...I'm having a tummy tuck and boob
job (woo hooo finally getting some boobs after 29 years of trying to grow my
own) in June...everyone keep me in their thoughts and prayers!!!!!
Much love and success to you all!!!!!!!
